PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Rainy River First Nations developed a 25 MW solar portfolio in Northwestern Ontario, approximately four-and-a-half hours drive from Thunder Bay, Ontario. The solar parks include Dave Rampel (10 MW), Morley (10 MW) and Vanzwolf (5 MW). Together these solar parks utilize a foot print of 225 acres. A total of 121,000 solar PV modules were installed harnessing 25 MW of solar energy.
B&M SCOPE OF WORK
Together with Black & McDonald’s (B&M) JV Partner AMEC Foster Wheeler, B&M was contracted to supply engineering and design, permitting, procurement (excluding the solar PV modules), construction and installation for all three solar parks.
B&M’s civil scope of services included:
- 7.1 km of roads
- 7 km of fence
- 20 e-house vaults
- 13,440 helical piles
- 10 km DC collector system circuit trenching
- 7 km AC collector system circuit trenching
B&M’s electrical scope of services included:
- 121,000 PV modules
- 13,440 tilt brackets
- 3,360 racks
- Three 44 kV / 27.6A kV substations
- 20 e-houses with 40 inverters
- Installation of 41 km of AC and DC cable
- 170 kM of PV string cable
BENEFITS TO CLIENT
B&M worked closely with the Rainy River First Nations on this project. At the height of the project, there was over 15 percent First Nations involvement, including local subcontracts and tradespeople.
