Black & McDonald is part of the P3 consortium to deliver the Women’s College Hospital Redevelopment (WCHR) project which included the financing, design, construction, commissioning and operations of the facility. As a partner, Black & McDonald acted in two capacities both as the mechanical-electrical subcontractor during construction and as a lead team member of the Facilities Management delivery. Now in steady-state operations, Black & McDonald delivers the Facilities Management contingent as part of the 30-year FM agreement.

Mixing Room Rooftop Unit Replacements

The project called for Black & McDonald to replace existing rooftop units with new high efficiency premium ones using industry accepted and supported refrigerant, a high pressure rated blower fan, an economizer, a free cooling/mua and a power exhaust system.

Chiller Condenser Replacement

Black & McDonald was called on for a project needed to convert the current water cooled condenser to a more modern and efficient air cooled condenser, this involved new refrigerant piping, compressor oil changes and leak checks, and pressure tests to ensure the system could be changed with the new refrigerant. To future proof the system, part of the scope involved the conversion of R22 refrigerant to the more ozone friendly R407C refrigerant.

Black & McDonald was called on to provide its expertise and replace two A.O. Smith water heaters with six A.O. Smith Cyclone Mxi BTH-500A condensing gas heaters.
