Kelowna General and Vernon Jubilee Hospitals Expansion of Outpatient Services
Black & McDonald is part of the P3 consortium (Infusion Health) selected by the Interior Health Authority for the Kelowna and Vernon Hospitals (KVH) Project which included the financing, design, construction, commissioning and operations of the facilities. As the FM partner in the consortium, Black & McDonald manages these duties and provides a full suite of hard FM services.
Women’s College Hospital Phase 2
Black & McDonald is part of the P3 consortium to deliver the Women’s College Hospital Redevelopment (WCHR) project which included the financing, design, construction, commissioning and operations of the facility. As a partner, Black & McDonald acted in two capacities both as the mechanical-electrical subcontractor during construction and as a lead team member of the Facilities Management delivery. Now in steady-state operations, Black & McDonald delivers the Facilities Management contingent as part of the 30-year FM agreement.
Darlington U4 Turbine Maintenance
Part of the Darlington cyclical maintenance program includes turbine and generator maintenance and inspections to ensure the integrity of critical plant equipment.
Armow Wind Farm Testing
Black & McDonald’s Field Service Division was contracted to perform a wide range of work, including point-to-point verification of all control and secondary cabling, and commissioning a substation.
University of Toronto Central Steam Plant
Black & McDonald delivered this Design Build project for the University of Toronto with a goal of reducing the greenhouse gas emissions of the central steam plant by increasing flue gas heat recovery.

Bruce Power Nuclear Generating Station A Unit 1 & 2 Restart Project
Black & McDonald was responsible for the complete re-commissioning of the relay protection for the MOT transformer, UST transformer, bus, line differential, breaker fail, SCADA and transfer trip between Bruce & HONI for Units 1 and 2.
Cypress Substation Construction
Black & McDonald was contracted to construct a new 138 kV to 240 kV substation (109 m x 198 m).
Sprint Onsite Maintenance
Black & McDonald was contracted by Sprint to perform work at multiple test lab locations. The scope of work consisted of installing and providing power to NetScout and V24 equipment.
407 ETR Phase 1 East Extension
Black & McDonald was the integrated electrical and civil contractor on this Design, Build, Finance and Maintain (DBFM) contract involving a 31 km highway extension.
TransCanada Napanee Generating Plant
Black & McDonald was the electrical contractor responsible for electrical completion work on all balance of plant electrical power systems (126 systems) at Napanee Generating Station including installation, testing and commissioning.
GO Transit Control Centre
Black & McDonald was responsible for all Electrical, Communications, HVAC, and Piping Installation on this new state of the art LEED Gold facility.
Halifax Shopping Centre Cooling Tower
Black & McDonald was invited (along with two other service vendors) to participate in a tender process to replace the Cooling Towers at Halifax Shopping Centre.
Mixing Room Rooftop Unit Replacements
The project called for Black & McDonald to replace existing rooftop units with new high efficiency premium ones using industry accepted and supported refrigerant, a high pressure rated blower fan, an economizer, a free cooling/mua and a power exhaust system.
Chiller Condenser Replacement
Black & McDonald was called on for a project needed to convert the current water cooled condenser to a more modern and efficient air cooled condenser, this involved new refrigerant piping, compressor oil changes and leak checks, and pressure tests to ensure the system could be changed with the new refrigerant. To future proof the system, part of the scope involved the conversion of R22 refrigerant to the more ozone friendly R407C refrigerant.
Toronto Pan Am Sports Centre Six Cyclone Hot Water Heater Installation
Black & McDonald was called on to provide its expertise and replace two A.O. Smith water heaters with six A.O. Smith Cyclone Mxi BTH-500A condensing gas heaters.
North End Water Pollution Control Centre Supply Upgrade
The work included construction of a new switchyard to house redundant 30 MVA transformers, a new electrical building and electrical distribution to feed existing electrical distribution equipment on the site.
Winnipeg Southwest Rapid Transitway and Pembina Highway Underpass
The project involves the continuation of the dedicated Transitway in Winnipeg from Pembina Highway and Jubilee Avenue to the University of Manitoba, as well as the widening and reconstruction of Pembina Highway beneath the Jubilee Overpass.
GO Transit Union Station Train Shed Revitalization 65 Front Street West
Black & McDonald contributed to the development of the train shed by providing all project management, supervision, labour, equipment, and materials to deliver the electrical scope of work.
