Canopy Growth Corporation (Canopy) has a vision to be the number one cannabis company in the world. In April 2014, Canopy became the first cannabis company in North America to be publicly traded. Canopy aims to provide affordable medical cannabis products and distributes these products in Canada and Europe.
When Canopy needed to undertake an expansion to its operations in St. John’s, the company called on Black & McDonald (B&M) to lead its installation of mechanical piping including Hot Water Supply (HWS), Hot Water Return (HWR), Chill Water Supply (CWS) and Chill Water Return (CWR) for its air handling units.
B&M SCOPE OF WORK
In 2018, the recreational use of cannabis became legal in Canada. This led to a robust demand for supply of the product to keep up with legal demand. The B&M project covered the installation of HWS, HWR, CHWS and CHWR for 25 Air Handling Units. It also featured the installation of Victaulic pipes and couplings ranging in sizes from 1 in. to 8 in. with hanger supports.
PROBLEM SOLVED
The cultivation of cannabis indoors requires sophisticated HVAC equipment and B&M worked a total of 2,746 hours to install the piping and supports to get the job done properly and ensure its air handling equipment met Canopy’s growing needs.
