PROJECT DESCRIPTION

NB Power is the largest electric utility in Atlantic Canada and is responsible for the generation, transmission and distribution of electricity throughout New Brunswick. Its 2,500 employees are dedicated to providing customer value to its 400,000 direct and indirect customers. The Government of New Brunswick is the sole shareholder of NB Power.

Point Lepreau Nuclear Generating Station is located 2 km northeast of Point Lepreau, New Brunswick. The facility is the only nuclear powered generating station in Atlantic Canada and was constructed between 1975 and 1983 by NB Power.

When NB Power needed a partner to install fibre cable throughout the site, it called on Black & McDonald (B&M) to do the job.

B&M SCOPE OF WORK

B&M provided complete construction services to install 5 km of single mode fibre cable throughout the nuclear facility. This was done to install, terminate and test multiple runs of lashable and teck-rated fibre. All end connections were completed using a fusion splice system.

BENEFITS TO CLIENT AND PROBLEMS SOLVED

NB Power needed a partner that could deliver a construction service that was thorough, safety-conscious and efficient. When working in an operating nuclear facility that had many challenges, and schedules were often impacted by plant operations, B&M was still able to deliver the project on budget, without delay.
