City of Toronto Adaptive Project Traffic Signal Control System

Client

City of Toronto

Location

Toronto, Ontario

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

As a pre-qualified contactor with the City of Toronto, Black & McDonald (B&M) was awarded the contract for the design, supply, delivery, implementation and support for an adaptive traffic signal control system project using InSync technology. InSync uses a thermal camera detection system that measures queue lengths on the approach to intersections and relays the data to the signal. InSync’s technology has been reducing traffic flow issues and improving safety at more than 2,800 intersections across North America—more than any other traffic adaptive system.

This pilot project took place along Yonge Street at 10 different locations as part of the city’s initiative to modernize its traffic signal infrastructure.

B&M SCOPE OF WORK

B&M was contracted to complete the following electrical and civil works:

  • Supply and install auxiliary cabinet
  • Supply and install thermal camera

  • System configuration on adaptive mode
  • System acceptance test
  • Work detail plan and quality assurance
