Baxter Healthcare CIVA Centre

Client

Baxter Healthcare Corporation

Location

Mississauga, Ontario

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The project consisted of the construction of a new state-of-the-art facility in Mississauga for Baxter’s Centralized Intravenous Admixing Pharmacy Service (CIVA), including new offices, change rooms, laboratory, and receiving and dispatch areas. The new Baxter CIVA Centre, at triple the size of the current existing facility, expands Baxter’s ability to meet the needs of Canadian hospitals, clinics and other care facilities for ready-to administer IV admixtures including chemotherapy, high-alert medications and anti-infective material, by doubling the number of cleanrooms available to support customized requirements for hazardous and non-hazardous IV admixing.

BENEFITS TO CLIENT AND PROBLEMS SOLVED

The site was limited in space capacity to stage material and equipment and hence the project team monitored the schedule closely and coordinated the shipping of material/equipment onto site in accordance.

Black & McDonald worked in tandem with the client to comply with regulations including infection control, noise restrictions, cleanroom requirements and security needs and regularly coordinated with client representatives prior to making key decisions on the project.

TECHNOLOGY USED

All the heating and cooling system piping was fabricated in B&M’s fabrication shop in coordination with the B&M CAD department. The project and CAD teams developed fabrication drawings based on field conditions and accommodated some site rework to ensure pipe fabrication was completed successfully.
