PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The 180 MW Armow Wind Farm was constructed in Kincardine, Ontario, which is located along the shores of Lake Huron. The project included the installation of 91 Siemens wind turbines, one of the largest wind energy projects in Ontario. The Armow Wind Farm was designed to initially generate enough electricity to meet the average annual power needs for approximately 70,000 Ontario homes. Together with Black & McDonald’s (B&M) joint venture partner AMEC, the Southern Ontario Utility Region was awarded the engineering, procurement and construction contract for the Armow Wind Farm Project.

B&M SCOPE OF WORK

The services provided by the B&M team included:

  • Installation of a 34.5/230 kV substation
  • Installation of a 230 kV Switching Station
  • 91 turbine foundations
  • 91 turbines erected
  • Construction of 52 km access roads for each turbine site
  • Construction of an operations & maintenance building
  • Installation of a 180 km long overhead and underground collector system
  • Complete testing and commissioning of stations and turbines
