Construction of Grand Bend Wind Farm
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
The Grand Bend Wind Farm project is located near the eastern shore of Lake Huron north of the village of Grand Bend. The wind farm was designed to generate approximately 100 megawatts (MW) of clean energy and was developed under Ontario’s Feed-In Tariff Program for renewable energy sources.
B&M SCOPE OF WORK
Together with Black & McDonald’s (B&M) Joint Venture Partner AMEC, the Southern Ontario Utility Region was awarded the Engineering, Procurement and Construction (EPC) contract for the Grand Bend Wind Farm Project.
The services provided by the team included installation of a 34.5 / 230 kV substation and a 230 kV switching station, building 40 turbine foundations, erection of 40 Siemens 3.0 MW WTG turbines, and construction of access roads for each turbine site. Additionally, B&M constructed an operations and maintenance building, installed an overhead 34.5 kV collector system, installed a 30 km long underground 230 kV transmission Line, and offered complete testing and commissioning of stations and turbines.
