PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Napanee Generating Station (NGS) is a 900 megawatt (MW) natural gas-fuelled electricity generating station. This station is tied in directly with the OPG Lennox Generating Station 500 kV Ring Bus. Black & McDonald (B&M) was contracted to complete the inspection, testing and commissioning of the 500 kV yard (including testing with HONI & IESO) as well as the BOP equipment down to the 600 V level.

B&M SCOPE OF WORK

Inspection, testing and commissioning of NGS 500 kV Switchyard & Balance of Plant Equipment. The work included:

  • 500 kV motorized disconnect switches
  • 500 kV ABB SF6 insulated breakers
  • Protection and control (transformer, line, differential, feeder, generator protection)
  • General Substation Equipment (CVTs, CTs, PTs, LAs, HV bus, control wiring, etc.)
  • LV and MV cable testing (VLF)
  • 21 kV auxiliary, excitation and station service transformers
  • 600 V DC switchgear building
  • AC/DC control systems
  • 5 kV / 600 V switchgear and relays
  • COVER & IESO testing
