PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Highway 407, an extensive east-west toll road in the Greater Toronto Area, was in need of extensions to accommodate rapidly growing communities. In Phase 1, an eastward bound extension beginning from Brock Road in Pickering ran all the way to Harmony Road in Oshawa (22 km), as well as a 10 km north-south highway stretch called the West Durham Link (WDL), which connected Highway 407 East to Highway 401.

B&M SCOPE OF WORK

Black & McDonald (B&M) was contracted to complete the following civil and electrical works:

  • Installation of 30 dome cameras with raising and lowering devices
  • Installation and integration of seven variable message signs
  • Erection of 61 high-mast poles with 544 high bay luminaires
  • Installation of 460 conventional lighting standards
  • Underpass lighting
  • Erection of 80 steel tolling gantries
  • Construction of 230 large caisson footings
  • Installation of 1200 underground structures (maintenance holes, handwells)
  • Installation of 770 km of pipe and conduit
  • Installation of 176 km of wire and cable
