Clarington Transformer Station
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
A new transformer station for Hydro One Networks called “Clarington TS”, which is located in the municipality of Clarington (east part of Greater Toronto Area), needed to be constructed. The purpose of this project was to replace 3,000 megawatts (MW) of capacity that was being supplied by the largest nuclear generation station in the GTA (Pickering Nuclear Generation Station) that was slated for decommissioning in 2020. When Clarington TS is fully commissioned it will be able to offset the generation loss with transmission capability and supply as much as 25 per cent of the eastern GTA’s electricity demand.
