City of Toronto Utility Relocation
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Black & McDonald Limited (B&M) was chosen by the City of Toronto for a construction contract extending the Path system. This extension took place at Front and York Street and required the existing utilities to be relocated to allow construction of the Path.
B&M SCOPE OF WORK
B&M was required to engineer the breakout and removal of Toronto Hydro duct bank and cable chambers. Toronto Hydro duct bank and cable chambers were rebuilt to suit new hydro feeds. The job requirements included breaking out existing duct banks and rebuilding at new elevations, along with relocating fibre into a new conduit. Telecommunication systems that include Bell, Allstream, Telus and Cogeco were in need of relocation. Set up of temporary traffic lights and installation of final traffic lights after completion of tunnel was also required.
BENEFITS TO CLIENT
In addition to successfully completing the scope of work, new Toronto hydro high voltage feeds were installed and terminated by B&M to allow existing Toronto Hydro power to be decommissioned and removed. Cable that was installed was lead cable due to the existing feeds in the city of Toronto.
