Bodycote New Plant Ventilation
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Bodycote is a heat treatment process facility in Burlington, Ontario. In 2017, Bodycote built a new addition to its facility. Once operational, heat and carbon dioxide levels in the new section became unsafe causing shutdowns.
Black & McDonald (B&M) was tasked with supplying and installing a new ventilation system. A solution that could vent heat and carbon dioxide restoring a more comfortable and safe environment was required.
B&M SCOPE OF WORK
The scope of work included:
- Supply and installation of a 60,000 CFM direct fired make up air unit including 2 in. MERV 8 filtration
- Supply and placement of three rooftop exhaust fans at 20,000 cfm each
- Two separate crane lifts were scheduled, one for the exhaust fans and one for the makeup air
- Supply and installation of fabric ducting including eight directional outlets along the working side of the ovens to allow for controlling air flow at workers
- Start up and commissioning for one makeup air and three exhaust fans
BENEFITS TO CLIENT
B&M went the distance in improving safety for plant employees, including increasing fresh air circulation and decreasing room temperatures. These improvements additionally helped the facility run more efficiently by preventing downtime issues due to high heat and carbon dioxide levels.
