Sprint Cell Antennas Expansion

Client

Sprint Telecommunications

Location

Kansas City Metropolitan Area

PROJECT DESCRIPTION

The continually growing popularity of accessing applications and associated content over mobile networks continues unabated, with no signs of slowing in the coming years. This growth is forcing service providers to continually expand their networks. Small cells allow the mobile network to improve in both coverage and capacity, which allows web-scale architectures even further as wireless access becomes the dominant network access method of choice

B&M SCOPE OF WORK

Black & McDonald (B&M) was chosen as the contractor to install small cell antennas to retail store locations throughout the Kansas City area. To enhance customer service and product presentations Sprint wanted to boost its data bandwidth and transfer speed in its stores. To accomplish this effort, the firm needed to mount small antennas to store rooftops.

From the existing electric panel, B&M ran conduit and wire to a junction box on the rooftops. After assembling the base of the antenna, it affixed the unit itself and secure everything to the roof. After connecting and powering up the antenna, B&M adjusted the settings to optimize reception from an existing cell tower. Once adjusted, we work with the service provider for downloads to the antenna. When downloads are complete, B&M used cellphones to test the system for optimum results.

BENEFITS

When Sprint looked to boost its network performance and needed smart infrastructure, it called on B&M to be its contractor of choice. B&M continued working with Sprint as the system spread across the city.
