PROJECT DESCRIPTION

In January 2015, Kansas City Power & Light (KCPL) announced that it would spend $20 million to build more than 1,000 public EV charging stations across its entire service area, which included the city and parts of rural western Missouri and eastern Kansas. At the time, there were fewer than 800 electric vehicles for a metro-area population of more than 2 million.

When KCPL wanted to build vital infrastructure to facilitate the use of electric vehicles and cleaner, more innovative technology, it called on Black & McDonald (B&M) to be its partner and ensure it got built right and on time.

B&M SCOPE OF WORK

B&M provides full service Electric Vehicle Charging Station support for the KCPL Clean Charge Network. The B&M team designed more than 700 sites, including the creation of utility maps and PE stamped drawings. Additionally, B&M used its electrical capabilities to install all necessary utility assets, NEC compliant inside electrical components. After the construction, B&M provided full service maintenance, utilizing a 24/7/365 dispatch center, on-call electricians, and guaranteeing 24-hour response. The service also included semi-annual preventative maintenance, which is managed through our proprietary asset management system.

BENEFITS TO CLIENT

KCPL relies on B&M to keep its electric vehicle charging infrastructure live to ensure that the 1.6 million customers can seek cleaner, more reliable transport.
