
Design & Build Silver State Solar Substation
PROJECT DESCRIPTION
Black & McDonald (B&M) was hired by Burns & McDonnell as part of a design/build team for the construction of a 230 kV substation at a greenfield site located in Nevada. The substation serves a large solar collection system.
B&M SCOPE OF WORK
B&M’s scope of work for the project included:
- Civil structures (concrete, flatwork, drilled piers, finish grading crushed rock)
- Underground electrical (underground conduit, ground grid, 34.5 kV exit feeders, low voltage wiring)
- Equipment installation (230 kV to 34.5 kV transformer, capacitor banks, filters, aluminum bus, switches)
- Control building installations (two prefab units with complete controls)
- Transmission line (2.5 miles of 230 kV, steel H structures connecting to grid)
