PROJECT DESCRIPTION

Boulevard Brewing Company had grown to be the largest specialty brewer in the Midwest, with full or partial distribution in 31 states and Washington D.C. at the time of the project.

Since 1989, Boulevard Brewing Company has remained dedicated to the craft of producing fresh, flavorful beers using traditional ingredients and the best of both old and new brewing techniques. They are proud to be Kansas City’s beer.

B&M SCOPE OF WORK

Black & McDonald (B&M), who Boulevard Brewing recommended for this project, was contracted by Krones to connect all the electrical and pneumatic requirements for the new Cellar 5 line. Krones, a large European Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM), supplied all the large equipment as well as the Motor Control Center’s (MCC), control panels, cable trays, cabling and field devices.

B&M’s first task was to map out and place all the field equipment as well as install the main MCC. This installation took place on the second floor where B&M had to hoist each section by crane through the side of the building where the team received and maneuvered the individual sections into the mechanical room via a small door opening. Once the entire MCC was installed and connected B&M ran the power and communication requirements to it.

BENEFITS TO THE CLIENT AND PROBLEMS SOLVED

B&M installed all stainless steel control panels, cable tray systems and stainless steel protection pipes. To consolidate space, the cable tray systems would carry all of the pneumatic tubing as well as the electrical power and control cabling. To compensate for stray eddy currents, or creating cross talk by inductive sources, all of the cables were shielded. Once all the cabling and tubing  were installed, B&M began to terminate, test and then commission the system. After the process was proven and the job was inspected by the local electrical authority, B&M went back and installed all the cable tray covers.

This project required extensive coordination with the other trades that were present. The B&M team worked together with the others to help produce an efficient schedule minimizing down time. This project was completed on time, without incident and to the client’s satisfaction. B&M continues to support this client’s needs.
