Born and raised in Nova Scotia I have had the privilege to work for a great company right here in my home province. I have worked with Black & McDonald Limited since 1988. Some may think that is a long time to work for one company but I can tell you that with the different opportunities that are available and the diversity of the work we do, I’m ready for another 28!
Over the years I have been fortunate to hold many different positions within our company, starting as an electrical apprentice installing duct banks, cable tray and switchgear at the Imperial Oil Refinery in Dartmouth to a stint with our Utility Division installing new traffic controllers in 96 intersections in the city of Halifax.
In time, I moved into a supervisory role for larger multi-discipline projects, such as installing a new crusher complete with 7KM of overland conveyors in Labrador City, NL to managing the complete mechanical/electrical installation for a new hospital in Bermuda. Finally, to my current role as Division Manager for Nova Scotia/New Brunswick Projects.
One of the things I have always felt fortunate about is being able to work for a company that truly cares for each and every employee. Black & McDonald is committed to doing everything possible to ensure we all have a safe day at work so we can go home to our families and friends. Safety is always first and foremost in everything Black & McDonald does.
I believe that putting such a high value on our employees and showing everyone the respect they deserve is why we have such a high retention rate and why we are so successful. People feel like part of the family.
Many days I look at all the great things my family and I get to enjoy whether it's riding motorcycles, ATV's or travelling all over the world and I feel thankful that my efforts at Black & McDonald are appreciated. I have never in 28 years felt like just an employee, I have always felt that this is my family, my home.
